Karnak Temple

The oldest still visible testimonies of the temple of bygone times date back to the 12th dynasty under Sesostris. The Colossi of Memnon (Arabic el-Colossat or es-Salmat) are two colossal statues from the 14th century BC standing side by side. The quartzite statues are badly damaged, they represent King Amenhotep III. Pharaoh Amenhotep III ruled the ancient Egyptian new empire in the first half of the 14th century BC. The statues were erected in 1379 BC.
